The game features a hub area where the player can acquire quests and upgrade their abilities before beginning a mission.

The mission structure in Shadow Warrior 2 is less restricted than its predecessor, and players can now revisit earlier missions to re-engage past enemies in order to upgrade Wang's skills. New traversal mechanics have been added, such as climbing walls and double jumping to allow for more exploration. The level environments are more open and nonlinear than in the previous title. In co-op mode, each player experiences the narrative as Lo Wang but sees other players as various anonymous ninjas. Shadow Warrior 2 can be played in single-player mode, or in a new 4-player co-op mode. A sequel, Shadow Warrior 3, was released on March 1, 2022.

The game was released for Microsoft Windows in October 2016, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May 2017, and Xbox Game Pass in December 2018. It is the sequel to the 2013 Shadow Warrior, the reboot of the 1997 original.

As a man of honor, Lo Wang vows to battle these demonic forces with an arsenal of explosive weapons, his silent blade, and a razor sharp wit. Lo Wang, Zilla Corporation’s legendary Shadow Warrior, discovers this corruption and the dark powers being summoned to aid his employers in this quest for absolute power. The Zilla Corporation is the most powerful of these conglomerates and will stop at nothing to achieve domination unseen by any other corporation in the world. Corporations rule every facet of life in a near-future Japan and employ Shadow Warriors, one-man armies of unparalleled skill, to protect their power and forcefully remove all opposition.

The definitive version of the cult classic shooter, Shadow Warrior Classic Redux features remastered visuals and two massive expansion packs.
